DESI 7/5/2010
Hello to all, Want to let you all know that Desi is doing great! He has been a great addition to our family and is loving his new home. And yes we cannot help our self on giving him all the love he wants. He is loving this warm weather. He goes outside in the am and sniffs all day long! We take him in the water and refresh him and off he goes to sniff some more! He is also enjoying boat rides and trying to get him to wear some sun glasses as he ventures out. He stays in our yard and listen very well. By the end of the day, he is ready for bed. I have attached some photos that we thought you might enjoy! The Reis Family
Maddie
I just wanted to thank you for the great opportunity you have given to our family. July 2009 we had to say goodbye to our 12 year old Golden, Tucker. He wasn\'t our pet, he was one of the family. We were hesitant about getting a new dog, thinking that it would feel like we were replacing Tucker. A family friend had stopped by Dog Orphans and told us of an adorable Golden there that needed a home. Once meeting Maddie (known to the shelter as Sheba), we knew she needed to be a part of the family. Maddie was adopted August 2009 and instantly accepted us as her new family. She is an only dog but has an 18 yr old cat as an older brother who likes to show he\'s king of the household, but then secretly snuggles up to nap with Maddie :) Although Maddie is 3, it\'s like watching a puppy experience something new every day. She was a crate dog with the previous owner that I think never got to see the outdoors. We bring her for hikes on the mountain, swimming in the pond and just let her enjoy the outdoors at any chance possible, all the while she\'s taking it all in with wide open eyes and a keen sense of smell!! We have many amazing pictures of her to share, enjoying the outdoors, but my favorite is this one of Maddie and her big brother Smokey. I came home from work one day to find the both of them napping on my bed :)
Thank you!!

Nora Jean
Our dog Nora Jean was adopted from Dog Orphans in August 2000 when she was about one year old. She is now nearly eleven years old and still has the energy and vitality of a much younger pup. Her favorite activities are long walks, playing catch and of course going for rides so that she can drive-by bark at other dogs. Nora is definitely spoiled by everyone including her Auntie Suzanne and Uncle David and she surely deserves every bit of it. Thank you for providing us with a super dog and a great companion and family member.
Chap

Hi, Just wanted to update you on Chap, yes I know, everybody at Dog Orphans knows he is doing well. I am the Assistant at Dog Orphans, and I adopted Chap in 2006, not long after I had started work at Dog Orphans. He is turning 7 this April. He is such a sweet, wonderful dog. He is a Lab Rotti Mix, with a heart of gold. I cant put into words what it has been like to have him. It was meant to be, I bring him to work everyday with me. He is so used to meeting people and dogs that he hardly lifts his head, even on those crazy days at the shelter. I can honestly say that adopting Chap was the best decision of my life. Once people meet him, they understand why. So I would like to say, Thank you Dog Orphans for letting me adopt Chap!
FRANK
 Dear Dog Orphans,
We just wanted to give you an update on Frank. He is settling in wonderfully in his new home in Medway. He loves going for rides to the local pet store (where we start training next week) and doesn\'t even mind the trips to the vets. Currently, he is still recuperating from some set backs from the neutering so we haven\'t been able to fully utilize the fenced in back yard. Hopefully in the next week or two he\'ll be cleared for full activity so we can meet new friends at the local dark park. Everyday we walk by it and he whimpers to go in. Otherwise, he\'s happy just to have the run of the house and sleep on his dog bed in the bedroom. I\'ve attached a picture of him watching the Red Sox Spring Training game in the Living Room last week. We want to thank Dog Orphans for letting us adopt Frank, who is in the word\'s of his new vet "the grand slam of shelter dogs."
Thanks,
Chris & Kate
Dolly My wife Renee and I found Dolly in December of 2008, I new she was the one for us. A medium size dog great for us, shes doing really well. We found out she is living up to our standards, she great with kids she loves to run, play and she loves other dogs. Even more, she love to play ball.. I can\'t say enough about her, she gets very excited when we come home from work give us all her love she has been minding very well. We have been trainning her to sit,and lie down. She has a lot of quirks about her and there funny, like she watches tv and loves poseing for pictures, so i\'ll send some. Thanks Dog Orphans

THE WORTH FAMILY
Brady
We saw and met Brady first of Sept. 08 and went for a little walk with him around the premises. He was a black lab mix and medium sized. He had/has lots of energy for play, learning and walks/runs next to the bicycle. We couldn\'t be happier with our choice and he\'s very happy being part of our family. The Dog Orphans must have given him a balanced home for the transition to be so perfect...thank you. We\'re lucky enough to have a home office I work from so I can \'sneak away\' for lots of walks/runs and play ball in the yard. Having Brady (already named - "Great New England name" I heard when we got him) has been a great breath of fresh air for us. We all exercise together now. He\'s a fantastic addition to our family. Thank you Dog Orphans...
Homer Well, I just wanted to update everyone on Homer. We are now living in Las Vegas, NV and Homer did quite well traveling across America. He is retired now from the golf course business but still likes to play every now and then. He is still the best dog we have every adopted. He is faithful, loving and now helps protect our granddaughter. He makes sure when she cries that someone pays attention quickly. He will go over to her and lick her feet to try and calm her down. It is so cute. Chris and I are so grateful that your organization had Homer. We are not able to adopt another because Homer is KING of his couch - but that we can live with for now. I just wanted to thank you all for saving Homer and for allowing us to have him in our family. He is growing older now and becoming less active and his hips are starting to become weaker - so we do not run him as much or go out as much to doggie park with him in this heat. But he has been a pleasure to have. Thank you again.
Chris, Marissa, Cameron, and baby Allison
Nixon Ace or Nixon was diagnosed with lymphoma last month. My husband and I were devastated once we heard the news. He is getting treatments every week and is responding well to the chemotheraphy and is in complete remission. Thanks to Dr. Kucia of Uxbridge Animal Hospital. He is such a joy for both my husband and myself and a good little brother to (reagan) my other dog. Thanks so much Dog Orphans for giving us one of our Lord\'s little creatures.
Goliath joined our family just a week ago on January 11,2000. Our boys have given him the formal name of Clifford Goliath. Goliath\'s heart is as big as his size. A stray, very little was known about him. Goliaths weighs in at a mere 113 lbs and he is only about a year old. When we saw him we knew he belonged with all of us. He fits right in with our two rugged boys, Sean and Matthew. He is well behaved and loves to lay in your lap. He loves to wake Mommy up several times a night by gently wrapping his large paw around her head. Thus, Goliath has received his first nickname- Sir Swat-a-lot!! We love him so much and he is already a member of our family that could never be replaced. Thank you to everyone at Dog Orphans. Thank you to Shannon for picking him out at the Leicester Dog Pound. Ron, you are doing such a good thing. There are so many dogs that need to be loved. But the most beautiful thing about it is that the dogs give you back so much more!! Goliath is happy, we are overjoyed, and now you have room for someone new to find a home. Advice for new shoppers, ADOPT DON\'T BUY!! There is something special about a pound pup!! Thanks again!! David, Susan, Sean & Matthew
Bess Thanks so much for adding Bess to our lives. She is a joy and has developed a wonderful relationship with our two Shelties. She is incredibly affectionate and loving and has definitely made this her home. We will definitely recommend Dog Orphans to our friends who wish to adopt.
Ruckus Thank-you so much for Ruckus. He has certainly lived up to his name but he is a big joy for our family. He loves all the attention and has settled in quite nicely. His favorite past time was trash picking but our child saftey locks have put an end to that. Spaghetti O\'s was his favorite! He\'s excellent!! Thanks - Again!
Otto We would like to thank Ron and Shannon at Dog Orphans. You two were both so wonderful with the adoption. He has adapted so well from being an outside dog to being an inside dog, he loves to snuggle on a blanket in the livingroom. He has already met his best new dog friend. His name is Wyatt, a beautiful German Shephard who is the same age as Otto. It has only been 3 days and he is already a major part of our family. Thanx again!!!! Zoe (formally Sadie) We would like to let Ron and Shanon know how well Zoe is doing. She is a joy to have. Zoe is like one of the family. We would like to thank Dog Orphans for the work they have done and continue to do. The work that they do allow many dogs the chance to find good homes. Without them we would have never found such a wonderful and special dog like Zoe. Thank you again. Judy, Fred, Mathew, Ashley, Freddy, and Zoe.
Holly We adopted Holly three years ago this november and she is a wonderful dalmation. She is very good with our two young children and has adapted well to the new kitten we adopted from you this past July. She is a important part of our family. We are truely blessed to have her in our lives thanks to the wonderful work that you do at Dog Orphans everyday. Keep up the good work because you are truely appreciated.
CHAMP Just a note to let you know that Champ is fine. He loves us (I believe) and we love him. He is a perfect match of we wanted: much better trained than we aniticipated. He is my not-too-large baby!!
Chloe Hi- Chloe has fit right into our family just perfectly! We all love her and she seems to think we\'re ok too! She keeps the boys busy and the boys keep her busy - a match made in heaven! She\'s had a couple of lessons from K-9 University and probably will have a couple more - boy what a difference! We all enjoy her soooo much!! We would like to thank everyone at Dog Orphans, especially Shannon who answered all our questions and concerns and her great knowledge and love for the dogs. Thanks Again!
Harley We lost our beloved "Bubba" to cancer the first week of December and we were devestated and thought we would never get another dog. "Bubba" had his picture taken with "Santa Paws" at the Dudley Nursery 2 days before he passed on. That is where I met some wonderful people from Dog Orphans. The next few weeks were long and extremely lonely, and so one day I looked you up on the internet, and came across a face that just melted my heart. The next day I went to your "orphanage" and saw a face the we KNEW belonged with us. Harley. We brought our kids to meet Harley and they all just loved one another. So Harley was to be part of our family. Harley has been with us for 2 months and has brought us much happiness and has filled a "void" that we never thought would be filled. Harley loves to give kisses, sit on your lap..(he\'s a 68 pound lap dog!) and just in general love the person that\'s sitting next to him. He\'s doing very well, and it did not take him long to adjust in our home. As a matter of fact, our cat Hewey loves to give him baths while laying on Harley\'s bed. Thank you Dog Orphans for giving us another member of the family!!!
Tyson We got our beloved dog sometime in June. He has been excellent with me and my sister, brother and parents. One of my cats likes him but the other one hisses because she has had a hard life. Something funny about my dog is that if he see\'s a dog or we just feel like it we howl. Tyson howl\'s along with us. He is a wonderful and loving dog. Thank you dog orphanage for giving us Tyson!!!!!!!!
Waldo We adopted waldo from dog orphans years ago before they moved to Douglas. He was a big Akita/Shep mix. He was the best dog and very adaptable, He went to and passed obedience school at age 5! But the cutest thing was after I had my twins, he was like their special guardian. He used to count them as we brought them in from the car and if one was missng because they stayed at grandmas house he would pace and stress out until they came home. He was the best family dog you could ever ask for. Devoted, loyal and trustworthy. Why he was given up we will never know but he was our angel in disguise and we are thankful to have had him. Thanks to dog orphans giving hope to dogs on their "last leg" we had years of wonderful memories.
Helena Dear Shannon & Ron, Just wanted you to know that Helena is doing very well with us. I can\'t believe we\'ve had her almost 2 years! She has great manners and is a total people dog. While we have to keep our other two dogs apart from her, she is a terrific companion - smart, playful and loyal. Hope you are all well. Take Care, Carla Horn
maxie my family and i would lik to thank the dog orphans for our little mut maxie. she just turned 1 and she loves to play! she also likes to go swimming in our pool, never seen a dog do that before!! we absolutly love her to death and thank you very much for giving us the highlight of our lifes thank you kindly, the Ayoub Family
Sunshine (Sunny) Hi, For about all my life I have wanted a dog. And about two months ago I presuaded my mom to let me get one. So one weekend we went to your shelter. And I found the cutest little beagle sunshine. And she came home with us two days later. She is now the love of my life. Thank you so much. Haillee
Maya We got Maya about a 1 12 ago. We had a dog called Bear for 14 yr. Me not wanting another dog but my daughter wanted to go looking up at dog orphans for one. So we went into the kennel, the frist dog i saw was standing up on the door of the kennel. i walked right by it knowing that she had trouble staying down of people. I took almost every dog in the kennel out to the pen. they all wanted to dig out of it,none of them wanted to play. so i went back in and said there is nothing that i wanted today. The girl that was working that day say to me Did You See that dog in the frist kennel?? i said yes i did. She said why don\'t you take her out there? i said she is going to be trouble, because of the way she was standing in the kennel. so she talked me in to taking her out there, at frist she was ready to run. i got her into the pen and she run a min. then she stop, and saw that there was some toys in the middle. she run over took a ball and took it to me. and wanted to play. So i said well we\'ll give her a try. It was the best thing i did she has turned out to fill the hole that bear left behind, and has become my best friend she go\'g every where i go. and i go where she go\'s. We have lots of fun together she is a great dog she has no bad habbit, except my wife dosen\'t like it when she4 sleep\'s in the bed, but she never kicks her off!!! so TNX\'S for having her there. Joe
Mickey I rescued Mickey, a terrier mix, from the Dog Orphans shelter in March, 1994, when it was located in Upton, MA. Mickey was about 1 year old. Given that he had been left at the shelter by his original owner and adopted briefly and unsuccessfully (returned to the shelter after 1 week), the Dog Orphans staff was extremely concerned that his placement with me be the right one. Needless to say, I made a commitment to Mickey on that day and have been very grateful ever since. He is the best dog who is a devoted and loyal companion with a wonderful personality and a great disposition. He continues to amaze me every day while always providing a constant source of comfort and joy! Bob (What About Bob & Robert J. Shepherd) As another one of my birthdays approach, we also celebrate our 4th year with Bob. In those 4 years our family and Bob have had to make many adjustments, but it was all worth it. Here is an update on Bob. We moved to our 11 acre farm in Rhode Island last year. The addition of more goats, chickens, horses and evan geese have given Bob many hours of chasing pleasure. We think it\'s all in fun as he hasn\'t caught or hurt anyone yet. He and his small sidekick, Kiwi get plenty of run time out in the fields. But she is in charge and he accepts that. They share toys and rawhide without incident. Bob is also the embassador of goodwill in the neighborhood. Most mornings he visits the family across the street, banging on the front door with his tail to be let in. After his hello and a treat, he moves along. He seems very popular. As I mentioned in a previous tale, life would not be the same without him. He is very much loved and spoiled. We are grateful to the Dog Orphan\'s staff for taking such good care of him.
ALEX We adopted Alex (nickname Goose)back in August of 1988 when the orphange was in Upton. She was a Beagle mix, when we took her home she weighted just four lbs. She went everywhere with us, I used to zip her up in my coat and carry her around. She of course grew from a fun puppy to a loving adult. This past summer was very difficult, we had to put Alex down. We had her in our family for a delightful 14 years. My husband and I miss her so much. Not a day goes by that we don\'t think about her. We still laugh about the silly little quirks she used to have. I think she thought she was human. I just wanted to take a moment to commend you for all hard work you do trying to place these dogs. Keep up the good work!!! We\'ll be in touch when we are "ready" for another dog. Sincerely, THE LEO\'s
GINGER WE ADOPTED GINGER IN NOV 2002. WORDS CANNOT DESCRIBE HOW MUCH WE LOVE HER. SHE IS ONE OF THE MOST ANIMATED DOGS YOU\'LL EVER MEET. SHE MAKES US LAUGH ON A DAILY BASIS. SHE HAS LEARNED NEW TRICKS SINCE WE ADOPTED HER AND IS LISTENING MUCH BETTER. SHE IS ALSO VERY SPOILED. WE TAKE HER TO PETSMART AND SHE SEEMS TO KNOW EXACTLY WHERE THE TOY AISLE IS. WE GO FOR LONG WALKS AND GIVE HER LOTS OF LOVE. WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK RON FOR ADDING GINGER TO OUR LIVES. WE COULDN\'T ASK FOR A BETTER DOG.
Helena (5.19.03)Dear Shannon and Ron, Helena is doing great! She is so playful and loyal. She loves to sleep on the couches and the beds. I think her favorite activity is stealing socks and then running around crazily, while we try to get them from her :) She is such a joy to have in our lives, and I am very thankful we found her. Thanks! Sincerely, Paige Horn
Shilo My dog has been with me for 6 years now, but every time i see him, it is like I just got him.
Lucky It\'s just short of three weeks since I adopted Lucky! What a find he was! In fact, I had considered changing his name, but realized that his name means Lucky for the two of us....me for finding him, and him for finding me!! The first few days were rough ones....he "sprayed" on every piece of upholstered furniture in my living room, and I had to sleep on the couch for 4 days because my cats would not come out from under my bed! My cats, Lucky, and myself have had to make some adjustments but now we couldn\'t be happier. Lucky has also given new life to my daughter\'s "older" dog. The two dogs, and now the cats too, play constantly. I feel as though I run a nursery school for animals! Lucky has the best personality I think I\'ve ever seen in a dog. He\'s always happy, always "smiling". My family and I, and our pets too, enjoy Lucky so much, and he enjoys our company too. I don\'t know Lucky\'s previous owner, but if you could, I would greatly appreciate it if you would let them know that Lucky has found a home, and we have found a wonderful pet. The care and training you provided him is evident, and I appreciate your efforts. Thank you so much for this wonderful dog!!!! Shirley Sullivan
Princess Ragen We met Princess Ragen a few weeks ago and she is a 9 wk old lab mix. She stold our hearts and breath the first time we met her. A week later we took her home. She has been a wonderful addition to our loving family. She is a delite everyday of the week. She wake about 6 am and plays all day long with her three children ages 17 14 and 5 . She keeps us all on our toes. She spends time outside playing and running and loves to go for walks. She has been a blessing for my daughter who has depression she keeps her happy all day long . Miss Princess Ragen is a bundle of joy and a relieve to this family
Chloe( previously spelled cloey) Only a week ago chloe joined our family of four college students, and quite many more great friends. she is doing absolutely amazing. teh amount of love that she has been recieving(and always will) is incredible. everyone thinks that she is the most beautiful, intelligent and loving dog. she personally is my dog, but she gained so many other people who consider her a big part of their lives. Chloe has ajusted so well, i cannot believe it. she went from being in the shelter for awhile, and now she gets along so well with up to twenty people at a time, but do not worry i do not let her get overwhelmed, she loves it. she is my partener for life now, i cannot imagine a day without her around. she has been very alert in protecting me and my friends, and we protect her and make sure hat she gets a belly rub whenever she wants. she sits here beside me now as i scratch under her ears, i am sure that she wants all of you to know that she is so happy and getting so much love everyday. Thank you so much to all the people at dog orphans, you have been absolutely amazing, I have never seen a shelter that has loved and cared for their homeless animals as much as you, thank you again for my amazing companion, Chloe and I will be best of freinds forever, her kisses and loyalty have given all of us so much joy and happiness, and we know that she will feel the same way. thanks again, Chloe says "Hi"
Oreo Oreo is a great dog. He has settled into his new home after being at the shelter for two years.
Sagan I adopted Sagan in December of 1998. She is a Shepard Mix. We think that she is part human part canine and is a very important part of our family. She is sensitive, smart, and beautiful. Whenever we take her out for walks, we always get comments on how beautiful she is. We are proud of her!! Her favorite things are going on horseback rides with me - she runs, I ride, walking around the neighborhood, watching the birds in the backyard, and chasing squirrels. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! for giving me the opportunity to adopt this dog. - Alison, Elliott, and John Homer Our family got homer about a year ago now. He picked us when we went to go look at him. He has been such a great dog. We are so happy he has joined out family. Homer gets to go to work every day on a golf course (now in new york) and chases geese off the property. When we got homer he did not like to play to much, it almost seemed he did not know how but now he has a bear that he loves to death and plays with out son chasing the bear back in forth on the golf course. We are so happy to have been given the chance to be homers parent and new home. He has certainly brought us alot of joy and peace in our family. We tell everyone we know about dog orphans and what they are doing. Thank you so much for giving us a wonderful dog and a new addition to our family. Chris, Marissa and Cameron
Willie In February 2002, we saw Willie\'s picture on your web site and it was love at first site. When we met him in person, our first impression was "wow.. he\'s a BIG dog!" but he had such a friendly personality that we knew he was the perfect fit. We brought him home a few days later and after sniffing around the house for a few minutes he fell fast asleep on the new doggie bed we bought for him. He\'s been the love of our life ever since. Everyone that meets Willie can\'t believe what a good dog he is... people just seem to gravitate towards him because they can tell he\'s just a happy go lucky fella. He\'s got the best temperment in the world and has never caused a minute of trouble since he came into our lives. He still loves to \'shake a paw\' and have his belly rubbed. We bring him on vacation with us to Martha\'s Vineyard and he gets lots of attention because he looks like the official "Black Dog" on everyone\'s t-shirts. He takes all the attention in stride and just smiles when the kids want to pet him. He is part of our family and we think he\'s just the BEST! We can\'t even begin to imagine what could have happened if Dog Orphans didn\'t exist and Willie never found his way to our home. Thank you for all you do!
BIXBY Bixby is such a character. He became instantly attached to our family. He can\'t get pet enough. If you stop petting him, he\'ll lay his big floppy head in your lap. You can\'t help but chuckle and pet him some more. Even our 10 lb. cat has taken to him quite well. They chase each other around the yard. It\'s funny to watch the cat chase him too. We love him very much and can\'t imagine not having him as part of our family. He loves to run in the state forrest. We believe that he thinks the it all belongs to him. He chases and barks at any wildlife that is roaming in his vicinity. He is very protective and barks at anything tresspassing through the yard. Even blowing leaves. Bix makes us laugh quite often and constantly shows us how much he loves us.
Jada Jada has been with me for a week now and is doing great. What a spoiled girl she is. She is very happy and loves her home. She goes to the farm every day and is very good with all kinds of animals. She loves people and is very loyal. Already she has become very protective of me and keeps an eye on my every move. She spends all but 5 hours a day right by my side, except for the weekends when she is with me all day. She is learning very quickly and already has learned a couple new tricks. She really is a joy and I cant imagine being without her another day in my life. I love her so much and have never been this happy. We make a great team and I think that we were truely meant to be together. I can\'t thank Dog Orphans enough.
Bess-Update 4.5 years later We adopted Bess from Dog Orphans in July 2000. She was our first adopted dog and gave me my introduction to shelter and rescue work. She is a great representative of a beagle, all nose and completely fun loving. At 7years old she still has the energy and antics of a young dog. Bess now has 2 more beagle buddies to share her life and has befriended a number of foster beagles over the past few years. Her love of life and kindness has helped her beagle \'sisters\' recover from their abuse and neglect. She can teach any dog how to play! I want to let you know that I will always remember the day I took that rather long ride to Dog Orphans, met, and was chosen by Bess, to give her a forever home. Thank you Ron and Dog Orphans for adding so much to my life.
Annie Leveille My daughter & I have been visiting Dog Orphans 1-2 times a month for the last 6 months looking for that "someone special" to join our household. We finally found her. It was love at first sight. She knew right away that we belonged to her. This is the perfect match for our family and for Annie. We just click. It took us a long time to find her, and it was worth the wait. Just like having a baby, you cant remember your life before or without her. Thank you Dog Orphans for bringing Annie into our lives. Sincerely, The Leveille Family
Casey Casey came to us at the end of November 2004. He is a beautiful buff colored cocker spaniel, who is also blind. Casey has had a hard life and it has been hard for him to accept new people in his life. But he gets better every day. It is such a joy to come home and have him greet us with a wagging tail. He gets along great with our other cocker named Harley. They are best buddies.Casey can be a lot of work with all his eye meds, but he is worth it. We absolutly love him, and we know he loves us too. We are so glad we found him. Thank you dog orphans for giving us Casey!!!
Buddy It\'s an unfortunate fact that pet owners often outlive their pets, so when my husband and I lost one of our much loved English Springer Spaniels to cancer, we didn\'t think we could be "parents" to any more dogs. As fate would have it though, one of the Board members of Dog Orphans called me (thank you, Evelyn!) and informed me that an English Springer Spaniel had just been dropped off at the kennel. We went to see him and it was love at first sight. Buddy is now a much loved member of our family, a constant companion and provider of fun for our other Springer, Elmo, and a source of entertainment for all those who cross his path. We can\'t imagine our lives without him.
Bear It\'s been a while since Bear joined our family, but we haven\'t forgotten Ron and the great experience we had at Dog Orphans. Bear is doing so well...she is still very shy, and as we have learned this is a trait of the breed that will never completely go away. She has come out of her shell so much, you wouldn\'t know she was the same timid creature I brought home! She is particularly attached to me (Robin), so much so that she is also known as Velcro-Dog. She has many names: Slinky (when strangers are around-we\'re working on getting rid of this name), Bear-Bones (sung to the BAD BOYS theme from Cops just for fun, and Kangaroo Dog for her ability to come up the stairs and only touch down once! We have started private lessons to help with her fear of strangers, and will hopefully be in classes with other people soon. She learns so quickly and is so very smart, too smart sometimes, like learning how to open the door to the the deck so she can try to let herself out. She is a handful, but is also full of love and affection. I am hoping to begin agility training with Bear once we get through our obedience and socialization classes. She\'s going to be a champion! She gets along well with her new older sister Heidi (I am sending a picture), and takes great joy in terrorizing the cat, Cocoa. But don\'t worry about the cat, Bear has never harmed her, and Cocoa takes equal joy in waiting on the back of the couch for Bear to go by and then using Bear as a springboard before the chase begins. Yes, the house is a zoo! I hope that people will give other dogs like Bear a chance to join a loving home. She was such a timid little thing when we first saw her, and a more than a little intimidating when she barked in her kennel, that I am sure she was overlooked by many people. I won\'t say it is always easy, you have to make the time and have patience with dogs, like Bear, that have issues with trust. But seeing her trust grow and watching her learning to play and enjoy life is well worth it. I wouldn\'t trade it for the world. On behalf of Bear, Thank you, Robin & Bob Emmy
8/15/05 - Thanks to Dog Orphans, my family has a wonderful, playful yet protective, and goofy addition in our family. Candice and Ron helped me, my six-year-old son and my husband adopt Miss Emmy about three weeks ago. I think it only took a day or two for Miss Emmy to adopt us! Talk about a match made in heaven. Miss Emmy and my son, Andrew have become the best of friends in such a short time. Where one goes, the other can be found (most of the time in the stream chasing frogs). I cannot imagine our hosehold without Miss Em any more than I could imagine it without Andrew. Thank you Candice, Ron and Dog Orphans.
Juno We met juno in early August 2005. we quickly fell in love with him and had to adopt him. At first him and the cat didnt get along but have made progress and are getting better. We also soon found out that Juno could jump the 6 ft fence that sourrounds his kennel. He is a loving dog that loves attention, car rides and treats. Juno and I love walking in the woods that surround my house looking for other creatures. We have come in contact with many deer and he doesnt know what to do. Overall i am pleased to say that adopting Juno was the best thing I have done. Thanks
Zepplin We took Zepplin home in February of 2006 and what a blast he has been! He likes to sleep in comfort, no floors for him - couches and beds only. He especially likes popcorn and movie time with our son (they lay in bed and enjoy almost every night)and playing outside with our daughter. He snores VERY loud, likes to eat oranges and bananas, sleeps stretched out on the sunporch soaking in the sun - plays with all his toys, his tennis balls being his favorite! Overall Zepplin has been a great addition to our family. He fit in easily and quickly to our routine, being super loveable, especially to our 9 year old daughter. He steals her toys when she doesn\'t pay enough attention to him (according to Zepplin), but she will just say, as she pats him and kisses him "Oh Zepplin, you are just such a bad boy, my sweet baby..." Please!!!! He is definitely spoiled - but with his super sweet manner you can\'t help but spoil him. You can touch his mouth, ears, stomache, kiss him on the lips and he doesn\'t care - as long as he is getting love he is like putty in your hands!!! We love him. Shea Hi to all at Dog Orphans. We just wanted to update you on Shea. We first saw him on your website and decided to make a visit to your shelter. I think we knew within the first half hour we wanted to take him home. As it turns out, it was surely the right decision. He\'s a great dog! He settled right into our house like he\'d been here for years. We bought him a really nice dog bed but he looked at it and decided "no" I want the old quilt lying next to it. He loves it. When he comes back from his walks around the neighborhood getting to know all his new dog friends, the first thing he does is roll all around on it and take a little nap. I have to say he has a very fast pace when he walks. He\'ll even run if you run with him. He\'s getting better with commands, also. He\'s very smart. He\'s learning not to be so anxious when he sees a treat but to wait until you give it to him after he sits or gives his paw. He\'s done this well in only three days (we adopted him April 30). We put him on a holistic low fat dog food, so we\'re hoping he can lose a few pounds, even though we love him as is. We\'ll keep you updated about him, but he\'s doing great so far. Thank you Dog Orphans, and especially you Sandy, for taking such good care of him and letting us have him in our lives. Sharon, Paul and Jason Bangs P.S. He just ignores the cat although she is still a little scared of him
