About Us...

Dog Orphans Animal Shelter, founded twenty-five years ago by a small group of animal lovers, is an organization dedicated to saving dogs from pain and suffering.

Now located on three acres of Douglas woodlands, the shelter can accommodate up to twenty dogs and is equipped with indoor/outdoor runs and a walking trail for exercise.

After entering our program, all dogs are spayed or neutered, given a heartworm test, a booster shot, rabies shot, ID tag, groomed and provided foster care until a permanent home is found. Since we like to make sure potential owners and their new pet are happy together, all adopters are given thirty days to decide if the dog they have chosen is a suitable match. Puppies are easy to place because they are naturally cute and cuddly, however we do not promote their cute and cuddly personalities simply for the sake of placement. We certainly will accept puppies, but prefer helping a dog that has been tossed aside from society, abandoned or abused, but still loving and willing to accept our help.

Dog Orphans is a non-profit, no-kill shelter governed by a volunteer board of directors. It is self supporting, thus relying solely on donations and adoption fees to keep the shelter in operation, as it does not receive any state or federal funding.

Our volunteer program is a vital part of our organization. Without your help, Dog Orphans would not be able to continue functions including; pet visits with the elderly at local nursing homes, educating children and adults about responsible pet care, promoting the rights of all aninals to be safe and happy, attending local functions, promoting our organization, and continuing our fund-raising efforts for the valuable work that is much needed.

Because we do not euthanize any dogs in our program, we need your support. We ask that you consider adopting one of our four-legged friends, making a donation, or perhaps referring us to someone you know who is looking for a great companion.
